Who We Are

ELNET is a European nonprofit organization designed to empower politically active friends of Israel across Europe. ELNET believes that close relations between Europe and Israel serve the interests of both sides. ELNET is uniquely positioned to build and support sustainable pro-Israel advocacy in Europe to facilitate this vision.

Background

During the past decade, Europe has become an increasingly important player in nearly every aspect of world affairs. Today, the European Union (EU) includes 27 member states and has greater voting power than the United States in the United Nations, NATO, and many other important international forums. Generally speaking, the six largest member states of the EU – France, Britain, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Italy – shape Europe’s policy. Europe’s political influence and economic power in the Middle East are growing dramatically. The EU is Israel’s largest trading partner, with a total trade volume of 25 billion Euros a year. Europe’s historical and geopolitical connection to the region as well as its physical proximity further ensure events in the Middle East remain at the forefront of Europe’s political, economic and social agenda. Against this backdrop, Israel’s relations with Europe have grown more challenging and critical on a number of fronts.
